Beth Jamison
Since childhood, I’ve lived under a shadow of fear and anxiety, afraid to trust anyone. But then I met Shane. He taught me to cope with my fears. He gave me the courage to let someone in. But the threat’s still out there, and it’s coming back for me. I know Shane won’t let him hurt me this time, but at what cost?
Shane McIntyre
Before, I dated one woman after another, never getting attached, never getting too close. But everything changed when I met Beth. She’s everything to me now. She’s the reason I get up in the morning, she’s the very air I breathe. Someone wants to hurt her, and I’ll be damned if I’ll let him. I’m her lover, her protector, and her best friend. I’m also her avenger. I’ll put an end to the threat once and for all, no matter the price I have to pay.
Shane takes hold of my chin, not hard enough to hurt, but hard enough to get my undivided attention. “Don’t ever think I don’t want you. I always want you. Every minute of every God damned day, I want you. I love you, Beth. Do you understand me?”
I’m tired of his evasiveness, so I pull my hand from his and reach up to cup the back of his neck. I pull his head down to mine and go up on my toes to reach his mouth.
“Beth – ”
“Kiss me like you did a few minutes ago.”
He shakes his head. “Sweetheart, no – ”
“Yes.”
He groans when I nudge his lips open with my own. His tongue sweeps across my upper lip as if he’s tasting me. And then it sinks into my mouth, tangling with mine, stroking and caressing. For a moment, I think he’ll give in, but then he pulls back and gently extricates himself from my grasp.
“Beth, I’m sorry, but I really have to get back. They’re waiting on me.”
“What good is being the CEO if you can’t tell people to call you back later?”
He leans down and kisses my forehead, then steps out of my reach. “I’ll see you at dinner tonight, all right?” He turns away and heads for the door.
“Shane, wait!”
He pauses mid-step, but doesn’t look back. It hurts that he won’t even look at me. I come up behind him and slip my good arm around his waist and lean into his back. He’s solid and warm, and I breathe in his tantalizing male scent.
He stiffens, his muscles going rigid. “What is it, Beth?” He sounds annoyed. “I’m in a hurry.”
Shane’s dismissive words slice through me like a hot knife, and I swallow what I was about to say. I’m so out of my element here. Part of me wants to beg for his attention, but another part of me refuses. Damn it, if he doesn’t want to spend time with me – be with me – then I’m not going to grovel.
“Nothing,” I say, letting my arm fall away from him. I step back and wipe my eyes with the back of my hand, glad that he’s not looking at me. “Go back to your meeting.”
He turns partway, and I watch the muscles in his throat working as he swallows hard. He clears his throat. “I’ll see you at dinner.” His voice sounds as hollow as I feel inside.
And then he walks away, without looking back once.

After paying rapt attention to my breast, Shane raises his head to look at me, a hopeful expression on his handsome face. His hand slips down to the hot, aching spot between my legs, and his finger slips inside my folds and rims my opening with a fingertip, teasing me mercilessly. “Yes?”
Already my insides are melting and my clitoris is throbbing. Of course he has to finish what he started, or I’ll be a wreck all day, achy and needy and unable to think about anything else but his hot mouth on me. “You started this, so yeah, you’d better finish it.”

I write about alpha protectors who fall in love hard and unconditionally. My characters are strong, sexy, and slightly damaged... because no one is perfect. All of my novels are full-length and have happy-ever-after endings. What else would you expect from a die-hard romantic? You won't find any cliffhangers in my novels, although you will find ongoing story lines that evolve organically over the span of several novels and many characters... because who doesn't love romantic series? I do! Vulnerable is my first published novel, and I'm thrilled to report that it's a great success!I live in Ohio with my teenage daughter and more than a few dogs and cats. When I'm not writing, I'm reading romance novels, watching "The Walking Dead" or "Outlander," or eating dark chocolate. I'd love to hear from you!
